I had the opposite problem with FCKeditor (didnt work at all) and removed it. TinyMCE with Wysiwyg add-on was what made things tolerable. Yes, you can get into module hell for all the add-ons and managing them but that is sometimes better than having a bunch of things added you will never use.

Its compatible with other editors also.

"A Wysiwyg profile can be associated to an input format. A Wysiwyg profile defines which client-side editor is loaded, what buttons or themes are enabled for the editor, how the editor is displayed, and a few other editor-specific functions."

Thanks Glen.

I started off not installing the blog module - and just writing stories, as you mention. But it didn't work the way i wanted it to and i installed the blog module, which helped. My main problem, as far as i remember, was the menus. By default, stories get sorted by date - oldest first - but with a blog, the menu should work differently. There may be a way to get the menu to work right with stories, but it seemed to me that i would have to organise the items manually. The blog module created its own menu that works pretty much the way i wanted it to.

I agree with you about Drupal's flexibility edge over Wordpress - that's exactly why i think it's important to be able to use it for sites where that flexibility's needed.

I installed FCKeditor, but it seems to delete all the new lines in the text of an already-written blog post and turn it into one big paragraph. That's a big problem and it's meant that i've disabled it. It may be ok if i use it to write the post in the first place - and maybe i'll give it a try when i write the next post. But i don't want to have to reformat all the existing posts just so i can edit them if i need to! I'll check out marsedit.

Hi Will,

Nice write up on converting from Wordpress to Drupal. I made the switch last year with three of my sites moving some from static to drupal.

I also found the tinymce module did not impress me; it was more likely my understanding of just how it worked. I switched to Fckeditor, although I prefer to use the program Marsedit for writing content and posts.

Drupal is not for the technically challenged. Wordpress is very easy to setup and run but does have extremely limited flexibility in my opinion.

To blog with Drupal as I later found out, should not be turned on for a single user. This is where I should have started by posting as a story, not a blog post.

What I find amazing about Drupal is its scalability, you can take it from a single user to just about what ever you want it to become.

Hmmm... I don't understand the relevance of the link to that poem. But, yeah, drupal doziness definitely.

Ahem, could you edit that last line to read "now" instead of "not", then look up this page:

http://www.themediadrome.com/content/poetry/wodehouse_printers_error.htm

and decide whether I deserve to be shot.

By the way, is this

http://copwick.net/screenshot.png

another example of Drupal doziness, or what?

I agree, TinyMCE seems a bit dreadful and the photo handling 'capabilities' are dire. Even the module originators can't seem to agree about what you should do to get image uploads to work with TinyMCE. For example, the README file from the tinymce module says:

"NOTE: If you want to use img_assist with TinyMCE, you don't have to
install a plugin. Just enable the img_assist module and click
the photo icon that appears below each textarea."

While the INSTALL file from the image_assist module says:

"If you use the TinyMCE WYSIWYG editor, you need to install a plugin for Image
Assist.

* Move or copy the folder 'drupalimage' in the img_assist directory to

[sites/all/]modules/tinymce/tinymce/jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/

..."

I'm still trying to get it to work either way myself.
